The 9th annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day, to be held on February 2, 2006, will
be coordinated by Wake County Public School System's School-to-Career
initiative and Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina. For thousands of Wake
County students, the traditional Groundhog Job Shadow Day will introduce them
to the requirements of career paths to help them prepare to join the workforce
of the 21st century.
Exploring and learning about potential careers at the high school
level is emphasized in school, and Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a critical
component of this educational process.
Last year approximately 2,000 Wake County students benefited from a job shadow experience
with a local business. However, there is an ongoing challenge to recruit the
number of businesses needed to satisfy the growing interest by students.
Please consider this community partnership opportunity and register to
participate in February's event. Beginning the process is very simple.
Start by filling out the Company Commitment Form below. The website will allow schools
seeking job shadow opportunities to view your information and electronically
reserve your shadowing slots.
Research shows that students who job shadow will be more positive about their
future, more likely to complete high school, avail themselves of postsecondary
opportunities, and become productively employed. Through your volunteerism, your
company will provide the invaluable connection between academics and careers and
help students learn by making their class work more relevant.
